Camera Features

It is the best

Our flagship high-speed Phantom Flex 4K camera from Vision Research combines the functionality of state-of-the-art cameras with the capabilities of specialist cameras. It is a powerful tool for capturing high-speed 4K images that is perfect for both feature films and commercial shots. It provides superior image quality while remaining flexible when it comes to frame rate and resolution.

The super-35mm 4,096 x 2,304 pixels sensor captures sharp, detailed images with very low noise and high dynamic range.

It's the most flexible

The Phantom Flex 4K camera enables image acquisition in all resolutions used in the film industry, including the anamorphic 2:1 format. In its top configuration, it captures colour high-speed images in 12bit Cine raw format at up to 1,000 frames-per-second in 4K and at almost 2,000 frames-per-second in FullHD. The 64GB internal memory lets you capture up to 20 seconds in FullHD and about 5 seconds of high-speed 1,000 fps in 4K with a running time of 3 minutes when played back. The camera also supports continuous capture at 128 frames-per-second in 4K and up to 512 frames-per-second in FullHD directly to CineMag IV removable media.

It gives you cinema picture quality

The 12 bit Cine raw file format available with top package Phantom Flex 4K Camera Rent ensures the highest quality high-speed capture and provides maximum flexibility in post-production. The Cine raw format is currently supported by many types of editing software, so you do not need to transcode it to other formats. The 10 bit Apple ProRes 422 HQ format is also available, which lets you store high quality video, simplifies workflow, saves disk space, and shortens data transfer time. Thanks to its capability to record uncompressed raw as well as industry-standard compression, the Phantom Flex 4K workflow is just as flexible as your frame rate options.

It's easy to manage

You can adjust all of the camera settings using the Phantom Flex 4K camera interface, which ensures intuitive use, improves your productivity on set, and lets you do it all without connecting to a computer. Moreover, the camera also provides a continuous live view both in 4K and in 1080p.

If your budget is limited, or you’re after higher frame rate options consider Phantom Flex 2K or Phantom Miro camera hire available from High Speed Rental. If you need the camera to be smaller and still be able to shoot 4K at 1000 fps the Phantom VEO 4K is your best alternative.

  • 12 bit packed to 10 bit Cine raw format
  • significantly reduced down time between takes on set
  • about one minute downtime per five seconds of recording
  • on average, several seconds per take after selecting the in and out points

Run Stop Mode

Files can be recorded directly on the CineMag IV removable storage while bypassing the integrated memory

  • 12 bit packed to 10 bit Cine raw format
  • no down time between takes, images are stored on the removable storage in real time
  • frame rate is limited to 128 frames-per-second in 4K and to 512 in FullHD

External Recorder Mode

Files can also be recorded on an external recorder, e.g. Atomos Shogun, while previewing the recording from internal memory

  • 10 bit ProRes or DnxHR format
  • each take must be played back in real time, which usually means the picture slows down 40 times
  • about three minutes per full five seconds
  • on average, about half a minute per take after selecting the in and out points

CineMag IV

CineMag IV available with top package Phantom Flex 4K Camera Rent is a unique flash drive dedicated for Phantom Flex 4K cameras. It works just like an SSD drive or a memory stick, but it is much faster. It lets you store multiple high-speed takes on a single medium. When full, the flash drive can be swapped without having to switch off the camera, so you are free to continue shooting. This makes the camera down time between takes as short as possible. The data is off loaded on to the SSD RAID array using Cine Station as Cine raw files download device. You can select the takes you want to store to save transfer time. Cine Station also allows 10-bit 4:4:4 video playback.
CineMag IV is available in a 1 TB and 2 TB version. 1TB fits almost an hour of video played back at 25 frames-per-second.

When recording at fewer than 128 frames-per-second in 4K, you can record the image directly to CineMag, bypassing the camera’s internal memory. This lets you record very long takes.
